Following online retail listings this past weekend, developer Remedy has confirmed Alan Wake Remastered is indeed a thing and will launch for PlayStation 5 and PS4 this fall. Writing on an Alan Wake fansite, Sam Lake said the remaster "is the original experience you fell in love with all those years ago. We did not want to change that. But the visuals all around, including the character model of Alan Wake himself and the cinematics, have been updated and improved with some choice next-generation upgrades."
It seems the online listings of a 5th October 2021 release date were incorrect as the post doesn't specify when we'll be able to play the game outside of the fall release window. Alan Wake Remastered will bundle the base game with all its DLC (The Signal and The Writer) and will feature a 4K resolution and developer commentary from Sam Lake.
"This is for you. Alan Wake came out over 11 years ago, and through that time, you have told us again and again how much you love the game, the story, the characters, and the lore. And that matters a lot to us. We love this game as well. I love this game. The remaster is coming because of your support for Alan Wake through the years."
You can learn much more about the development of Alan Wake through the link. Will this be your first time playing Alan Wake or are you a seasoned veteran of the torch-wielding writer? Let us know in the comments below.

Alan wake was the reason I bought a xbox 360. Played it 3-4 times but will buy it on ps5 to play it again on a better console.
here's hoping its more than just allowing the playstation rather than the TV do the upscaling.
Remaster to me says "we didn't have the budget to do a remake so have this instead".
cynic
I must have been ASLEEP because I never saw this one coming. I mean, those leaks right…
Wait I’ll think of something original and funny. Alan Wake, Alan Sleep? No, errr - Knock knock. Whose there’s? Nobody he’s… awake?!
Screw it, I’ll see myself out.
Hope they will also add the american nightmare game too, i only played the demo of that, it was fun, with a kind of horde mode challenge.
“Al, this may be the most awesome moment of our entire lives!”
Never played it would love to see if its good.
Well currently playing it for first time on the Xbox, had never played before but really enjoying it, Will probably buy it again
So hyped as i loved AW on 360. PS players who never got the chance to play it originally i urge you to play it as its a great game.
Death Stranding and Alan Wake re-released in the same year and same season with shiny new paint. I usually dislike remasters, but I’m genuinely excited by the two of them. For what it’s worth, Alan Wake was, in my opinion, the crown jewel of Xbox exclusives from that bygone era.
Alan wake is ok but becomes repetitive very quickly i liked the overall vibe of it all though
7/10 game
I had never heard of Alan Wake till recently. Would you play the this remaster before playing Control?
Seriously fantastic game. So much of the writing and atmosphere remind me of the best parts of Twin Peaks. Will definitely buy for PS5
@Kienda Good one, I almost laughed 👍
@weegiebored One of the expansions for Control, AWE, is based on Alan Wake. I still enjoyed the AWE part but definitely feel it would have been better if I'd have played Alan Wake first.
Can't wait to get this to see what I missed 😀
before Alan wake got discontinued on steam I bought it for 3 euros . its crazy to think this game is going to cost 50-60 euros on consoles :/
@render yeah I think you are right. The backlog builds!!
@ArcadeHeroes
How do you know that?
I cant find any information about price.
Link to that please.
I have never played the game. I think I have it on steam tho. I remember people praising the game and apparently it is similar to Control and that one Xbox One exclusive from years ago, so I might give it a shot sometime down the line.
Love the game, will definitely be picking this up to show support for the franchise. Hopefully if this sells well enough we can finally get the sequel.
Wish we got max payne the 3 games with a good remaster too. I got mp1 on ps4 and it's still cool but the port is really basic, with old controls, feel, on screen ps2 era prompts, original graphics etc.
Really like alan wake except some parts were a little annoying, with poltergeist objects ramming you non stop etc.
From memory this was the only 360 exclusive that i wanted to play so i am looking forward to this
@ArcadeHeroes I mean this is a remaster and not the actual version you bought or the one i own on my Series S.
Very hyped for this! Finally will be able to finish this classic
I played this on the 360 and remember thinking it was just ok. Some interesting game mechanics and a nice atmosphere but I remember getting a little bored. I might revisit it seeing as it’s been so long, perhaps my tastes have changed.
N.i.c.e. will definitely try this game out.love the supernatural gameplay of this game.word up son
Never played the original as it was on an xplodeBox and I was spending all my spare time with the PS3's slew of great titles.
I heard it was well received so it'll be interesting to see what the fuss was all about.
Crazy that I've never played the Alan Wake series, but I have it on the 360. Guess I'll have the chance to play a better version of it.
The one game I wish I had an XB360 for. Really going to enjoy playing this for the first time!
@lindos it sounds like new character models redone cinematic , and they added in " it will include other next gen upgrades" . it sounds like they put some work into it.
Played this when it came out and I JUST replayed it this Spring on GamePass. Dammit, wish I would've waited.
I'm not exactly the biggest fan of Remedy, just could never get into their games... EXCEPT Alan Wake, which is a damn good game, and can't wait to play it again.
I hoped it would be a remake not a remaster since I was little when this came out and don't exactly like old generation games
@ArcadeHeroes What do you mean discontinued on Steam? It's there alright! Got the page right in front of me.
@SamMR it sounds more then a simple remaster if they re did a lot of the assets in the game, and added new features.
So glad they didn't include the weird standalone game that came out afterwards.
@spyro202 This was back in 2017 I think ?? it was removed from Steam and Xbox Storefront at the time .
Groovy. Having always been a blue-blooded PlayStation boy this was one of the few Xbox games I was always bummed about missing, so will pick it up for sure.
It’s great. I’m interested in this one.
Played it back in the day ,really enjoyed it so will deffo pick the remastered version up ,
Torch at the ready
Ah, played on the 360 back in the day. I would revisit this game for sure.
@ArcadeHeroes Yeah, I can see that happen. I dunno why they sometimes do that in and out thing. I know sometimes it's because of some copyright on songs.
I bought a 360 for this. Then the red rings of death came along and I bought a PS
I had hoped they would update to the control engine. Its was good game but it has not aged the best. Still worth a play though, just temper expectations
Great news. I wish one day Ori titles come to PS as well.
something I'm looking forward to, never played the original on the 360
So happy this has been finally confirmed! Loved playing the original and I never beat all of the DLC.
@Jtheripper Same, it will be a big shame if American Nightmare is skipped and stuck on Xbox/PC.
Another Remaster? oh for God sake. Why can't developers just focus on new games? Jesus :/
